A grocery store style Food Bank
I can't remember where I heard this idea, but it was to set up a food bank like a grocery store. Clients are issued points based on the size of their households and then allows to brows the food bank and get what they want and will use, with each item costing specific points. This idea has several advantages:
- Whoever was present this, claimed that it helped the dignity of clients. Probably true, but less easily measured.
- It reduces waste since people only take what they want to eat (and know who to eat, an issue with immigrants).
- Allows for irregular and perishable/seasonal items to be integrated into a food pantry easily.
