October 11th Meeting Recap
A recap of things discussed at the October 11, 2006 meeting at 7:00 pm in the Good Shepherd room at the community center.
The Wayfarer Center
The Wayfarer center had a dedication ceremony on Oct 4th. They will be having a soup lunch on Thursday, October 19th and an Open house from 4-7pm on October 20th. See the Open House info for more details. They are planning on be operational there by Monday Oct. 23rd. Team A should contact the wayfarer to see where they will be on Sunday Oct. 22nd. Since the 1st was on a Sunday this month, the fourth Saturday is on the 28th and Team C will be in the new facility on Fourth and North.
Ticket Sales
After the first week of selling tickets, we have sold about 50 tickets so far. Last year we had sold less than that prior to the dinner, so this really bodes well for the dinner attendance. A quick survey, indicates that about 80% if the tickets sold were for enchilada dinners.
Decorations
Lenore reported that the tablecloths for this year had been donated by the party supply place and were the same color as last year's tablecloths. Also, we have a number of very unique looking gourds for the centerpieces.
Servers
Bridget Levich reported that Mr. Heberle had about 22 or so students from his 8th grade class who will be helping to server the meal.
We decided to have bread and green beans as side dishes for the lasagna dinner and rice and beans for the enchilada dinners.
Silvia Hillyer volunteered to make the enchiladas the morning of the dinner (if we can get the ingredients before hand.
Lenore Vega volunteered to make the rice for the dinner under the same conditions.
Tim Swyt will check on getting a donation of 50 pounds of rice for the dinner.
We decided to provided water and coffee on each table. We will also have hot water for tea, decaf coffee and lemonade available at a beverage table. Dessert will be finger type desserts (cookies/brownies/dessert bars). We would like everyone who is helping with the dinner that is able to to provide a plate of such items. We will arrange assortments on plates for each table which can be replenished if they run low.
Finally, we are putting together a Shopping List for things we need to get for the dinner.
The Bar
Bridget Levich is talking with Santoni's about donating the beer again this year and Cracchiolo's about donating the soda. We will get three cases of Charles Shaw (Two Buck Chuck) Shiraz and three cases (36 bottles) of Chardonay from Trader Joe's
I have sent the application for the liquor license to ABC in Sacramento and am just waiting to get it back in the mail.
Entertainment
Tim Swyt indicated that Sylvia and Paula Dinozo were able to get the Jazz Ensemble again this year. We will confirm this at the next meeting.
Ted Vega also volunteered to bring his guitar and entertain as well.
Publicity
We are having announcements in the bulletin each week until the dinner. It was also suggested that we add a line that we would be grateful if anyone wanted to provide cookies/brownies/dessert bars and that they should bring them before the dinner.
Ted Vega reported that announcements about the dinner were being made on the Parish radio station from now until the dinner.
We should look at getting the dinner into the Daily Democrat as well.
Catherine Ensign also suggested making an announcement at the Newman Center in Davis and perhaps also contacting St. James Parish in Davis about putting something in their bulletin as well.
Volunteers
We also have the names of approximately six new people or families that would like to help with the ministry. We will contact them before the next meeting.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 24th in the Good Shepherd room of the Community Center on California, St.
